Live Painting New Years Eve
There’s an interesting back-story to how I ended up painting at the New Year’s Eve Party. When Ryan of the Brass Messengers asked me to paint I initially said no. I am working on Live Geometric Abstraction but I’m not ready to perform it. Then I had this dream: I am doing a residency on an Art Farm. I have an appointment with a psychic curator who has agreed to look at my portfolio and give me advice on getting my work “out there,” but she never shows. She calls and apologizes yet still I feel disappointed and my feelings are hurt. (I have a Pisces Moon) So as I am sitting there despondently I notice two bugs crawling towards me with a sense of urgency. Two translucent green psychic bugs tell me “go back to painting figures live.”
Many times when I get messages in dreams I don’t act on them right away. I turn it over in my conscious mind until I can accept and truly understand the message, but my partner Giuliana said that if you are going to go back to painting figures live you should do the show. So I called Ryan.
I practiced a few paintings and realized I cannot do them like I used to: 90-second paintings in a frenzy. I want to take more time and shape the image, dance a bit and be more intentional. I want to play with the background color, add some spirals, combine paint with crayons and generally have more fun.
So I did and it was.

Inizialmente quando Ryan del gruppo Brass Messengers mi ha chiesto di partecipare alla festa di New Year Eve ho detto di no. Sto lavorando con delle astrazioni geometriche ma non sono ancora al punto di eseguirle live.
Poi ho avuto questo sogno: Io ero ad una Art Farm Residency e stavo aspettando la curatrice psichica che aveva accettato di darmi la sua opinione del mio portafoglio e consigliarmi un po su come rappresentarmi. Lei chiama e disdice, scusandosi, ma non evita di ferire i miei sentimenti (la mia Luna è nel segno dei Pesci). Così, scoraggiata, mi siedo e vedo due strani insetti che vengono verso me con una certa urgenza. I due insetti sono veggenti e di un verde traslucido, camminano su quattro gambe e mi dicono “Torna al Live Painting con le Figure.”
Spesso quando ricevo un messaggio nei miei sogni non agisco immediatamente. Ci penso e ci rifletto e cerco di capire ed accettare il significato che sento più vero. Ma Giuliana mi fa notare che se la voglio l’opportunità mi è gia stata offerta da Ryan.
E così ho rivisitato le mie Figure e ho deciso di eseguirle un po' diversamente. Non più nella frenesia dei 90 secondi, ma con più concentrazione, più focalizzazione sul ritmo, la forma ed il colore.
