Traveling to Paint

Bouncing back and forth between landscapes and figures: next week I am traveling to Port Wing Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Superior to participate in the Port Wing Plein Air Painting Festival. WooHoo! This year I will be biking around town looking for surprising, mysterious or overgrown scenes. My plan is to ignore local color. It can be a challenge to be wild and expressive with color while the “real” colors are staring you in the face. It is much easier to paint crazy colors in the studio. I will let you know how it turns out.
In the meantime here are my recent landscapes done in the studio from photographs. The color schemes are inspired by one of my favorite painters, Wolf Kahn.
